parse interface description

I would like to use Syslog Watcher to be log host to monitor link up/down status of some H3C S5500-EI switches. The interface name GigabithEthernet1/0/x was shown on the message when a the link was down but not the interface description. I don't think there is configuration on the H3C switch to include the interface description in syslog message so I would like to know if there is any work-around for Syslog Watcher to parse the description before showing the message on the grid. Thanks.

Hi Kerwin,

Thaks for your inquiry. The only workaround that I can think of is to create a custom VendorPack file with the interface names. However, this method does not allow to insert interface descriptions into syslog messages. The interface description will appear in the Syslog Watcher's bottom pane (Message Details) only. Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks Brian for the prompt reply. So if I use the custom VendorPack method will the description be in the exported file if I export the syslog from the Syslog Watcher?

Unfortunately no, It will not be exported. I understand that this is not a solution to your question. We definitely need to add a feature which allows you to modify collected syslogs according to custom rules. I will add that idea to the list of feature requests.

The feature will give your product great advantage over others in the market.
